THE TEMPLE OF ABYDOS

PORTICO


This portico has been decorated largely by Ramses II , it serves , in the current state of main entry of the Temple itself . It is composed 12 rectangular columns and a wall . To the period of Sethy , it was pierced seven carry that have been closed thereafter , only the one situated to the center that serves actually as main entrance to the first hall hypostyle hall .
On the left part of the photograph , on the wall , behind the pilars we find the famous great dedicatory inscription of Ramses II to his father . He offers an image of the goddess Maat to his father and to the gods Osiris and Isis . In this inscription , Ramses II report for its acts that he honors the memory of his father . The inscription is composed of 95 lines . It shows two parts which correspond to two periods of the reign of Ramses II .
In the first part of the text Ramses II tell about his first trip in Abydos that he found the father 's temple and necropolis in a very bad state .
In the second part of the text , we have advanced in further time and we notice that all points above quoted was finished .
